about

I like Frank Zappa and was also somewhat inspired by Leonard Cohen, although I could never put myself in the same class as these giants. Zappa's spoken word (ala Cosmic Debris) and Cohen's use of repeating a phrase (ala 1000 kisses deep). The background is a combination of a heavily processed beat, some background ambience I recorded at a bar I was playing and some sound effects. The sax comes over more traditional musical bed. The sections contrast between pretty much atonal and a basic iim7 to a IM7. It's a tension and release format with the sound effect section replacing a minor or harmonically dissonant section. In some modern music, this is represented by a rap section (tension) followed by a melodic section (release) usually in the form of the chorus or hook.
The words come from the thought that this world is nuts. Why am I here? No matter what I do it ends up crazy. Some of this is relationship oriented where I seem to be doing OK, life is going on, I meet a girl and things get crazy in a short amount of time. ALways building, tearing down, then building again.
The song was produced in Logic Pro, using a Mackie U420d Mixer, Neumann Mic, Selmer tenor sax with some of the sounds coming from a Korg Triton Rack, processed in Logic. I use tRacks plug ins.

lyrics

I got up,
I got down
I always seem to find my way
Back to Crazy Town

I was a king
I was a clown
I ruled and entertained
Back in CrazyTown

She loved me not
She Loves me now
She loves it when I take her
Back to Crazy Town

I wear a smile
I wear a frown
I lost my face again
Back in Crazy Town

Her eyes were blue
My eyes are brown
But we can see each other
Back in crazy town

My head in the clouds
My Feet on the Ground
Here I am walking
Back Into to Crazy Town

I lived it up
Now I'm livin it down
Never thought I build my house
Here in Crazy Town

She talked and talked
I didn't hear a sound
I think she was calling me
Back to Crazy Town

I was laughing
While everyone frowned
They'd seen the likes of me
comin back from Crazy Town

My white Tux
Your wedding gown
We walked down the aisle
Into Crazy Town

I got up,
I got down
I always find my way
Back to Crazy Town
